What should I expect if I were to visit a Journey of Faith church service?

No two Sunday services are exactly alike, but there are some things you'll experience almost every week in our English Language Service.

Every service in preceded by a time of meditation. There;ll be live music and simple instructions on the screen at the front will explain how to participate in personal worship through the lighting of candles and written prayers. Or, you can simply enjoy the music and prepare your mind and heart for a time of corporate worship.

Our worship service begins with a video greeting that shares a brief picture of who we are at Journey of Faith. Then, we take time to personally greet on another. Feel free to move around and meet people or simply remain in your seat while some friendly people come and welcome you to the service.

Our Music is upbeat and Christ centered. The words to the songs are always displayed on the screen at the front. Sing along or just listen and enjoy. There is usually a break in the middle of the worship music that will include an opening prayer. Often, we share pictures and videos of Journey of Faith members performing ministry in the preceding weeks with a video blog presentation called "This Week at Journey of Faith". Other weeks, we take a brief time for a Missions Moment where we highlight our monthly world missions focus. This is followed by more worship music.

Our Family Prayer Time is a part of the service we devote to corporate prayer. Some participants may come to the alter rail at the front of the church to pray during this time. Others write their prayers down and put them in the Prayer Bowls. This prayer time, normally led by a member of the pastoral team, is a time when we all spend time talking and listening to God in prayer.

The preaching ministry on Sunday mornings is normally provided by Pastor Joe Shreffler, our Senior Pastor. The focus of our preaching service is on Bible based, practical teaching about how believers can follow God's will for their lives and BE ministers all week long.

The service ends in prayer and a final worship song. We normally end our service around noon.

What is your style of music?
Everyone has their own personal taste in music, and corporate music choices don’t always suit everyone. We focus our music worship on upbeat, Christ centered songs. Our Worship Leader and Worship Band strive to do the best they can, but our focus is on the music as a way to present our worship to God. We usually move from higher energy songs at the beginning to more contemplative choices as we approach our Family Prayer Time. Our primary goal is to present worship that will be pleasing to God.

What is your preaching/teaching like?

The primary preacher in our English Language Services is Pastor Joe Shreffler, our Senior Pastor. Pastor Joe is a story-teller, by nature, and his sermons use the stories of the Bible, our world, and his, and other people’s, lives to illustrate the issues that Scripture addresses. The focus is bringing the written Word of God to bear on the issues of our everyday lives.

All preaching and teaching at Journey of Faith is Scripturally based and applicable to every listener, whether they are long time Believers or new seekers of truth. The purpose of our teaching is to assist all our people in living lives pleasing to God.

What do I do with my kids during church service?
We have a nursery for all services, for children ages infant - 2yrs of age. During Sunday morning worship services, we include older children during our music worship service, but then allow them to move to a separate Kids Church time during the teaching portion of the service. This allows for an age appropriate opportunity for our kids to hear about Christ in a fun and interactive environment. We include kids from 3 through grade school age in Kids Church.

What does it mean to be a part of Journey of Faith?

Dive into Journey of Faith! There's a big difference in being a weekend attendee and being part of the church body. The Body of Believers at Journey of Faith isn’t trying to simply generate a crowd; we want to BE the Body of Jesus Christ.

The goal of Journey of Faith is to be “A Church That Makes A Difference.” We believe that we can do that by becoming a Great Commission church, following the direction from Christ to “…go into all the world” and “make disciples.” We do that in three ways:

First, we Engage the Culture. We have no desire to live lives separate from the people around us; we want to “do life” with our neighbors. We try to serve people everywhere we go, both as individuals and as a Body. When you attend Journey of Faith, you’ll see examples of people serving others, and you’re invited to jump right in and be a part of that. You can get involved with the various compassionate ministries at the church, or you can find new ways to do it yourself. As we do ministry for Christ, people will see Him in us.

Next, we Create Redemptive Relationships. We believe that Christ intends us to be spokespersons for Him in our culture, letting people hear Him through us. We don’t expect people to “preach” to those they serve, only to represent Him through the way we serve. We are not ashamed that Christ has made a difference in us, and we are simply paying it forward to others all around us, and giving Him the credit for it.

Finally, we commit ourselves to Make Disciples. We know that we cannot make people into disciples of Christ, but when we serve others and give Him the credit for all we do, many will want to know more about Him, and we try to “get out of the way” and point them to Him.

You don’t have to be a member of Journey of Faith to walk this journey with us, you simply have to follow Him. We’ll point the way, if you need help, through teaching ministries, Bible studies, leadership classes and, if you desire, membership classes. As you attend, just listen for the opportunities as they arise.

What do your services "feel" like?
The services feel exciting, warm, and friendly all at the same time. Many people comment about how they can sense God's Spirit at work. We make a special attempt to creatively communicate God's purpose for your life every Sunday. Our hope is that people are engaged emotionally, visually, and spiritually. We want people to truly experience God's message for them each Sunday morning. In addition to great worship music, we may at times use dramas, videos, special readings, or some other creative avenue. However, it is always driven by the Bible. At times, the only thing may be straight Bible-driven teaching. We always want God and His word to be the center of our attention.

What do you ask of visitors?
Visitors are encouraged to come, relax, and enjoy. During the offering time, we ask all visitors NOT to give but to simply pass the offering bag to the person next to you. We DO ask all visitors to fill out a Visitor Form, which is located in the Sunday morning program. This helps us know how we can better serve you. We also ask every visitor to check us out for three (3) visits. This gives our visiting friends a good snapshot of what Journey of Faith Church is all about. That's critically important for people to get an accurate picture of Journey of Faith.

What do you do at Journey of Faith besides have church services?

That’s actually the best question of all. At Journey of Faith, we believe our church services, on Sunday or at any other time, are really just times of preparation for service. We believe that the church is MOST the church when the sanctuary is empty, and the people of God (we call them the Mighty Army of God) are at work in the mission field to which we have been assigned.

The people of Journey of Faith are at work all around our community. Most of the time, it’s just a matter of understanding that everything we do, our every day, walking around, doing our jobs or going to school, or spending time with our family and friends lives belong to God and we are representing Him. That helps us to live lives that would be pleasing to Him.

At other times, we are involved in all kinds of service to the community all around us. Many of those ministries are a part of Generous Life Compassionate Ministries, the outreach arm of Journey of Faith. You can read more about those ministries and how you could be a part of them by simply clicking on the GLCM links throughout this website.

But, we don’t stop with our local community. Follow the links for Work and Witness to learn more about our ministries around the world, in connection with the worldwide Church of the Nazarene. And, follow the links for One Heart, Many Hands to see how we give of ourselves both locally and beyond to assist others when they are in need.

The only limit to ministry at Journey of Faith is our willingness to obey God when He invites us to join Him in ministry to others. As you become a part of Journey of Faith, we believe that He will also invite you, and that our ministry will be enlarged as we join with you in following His will for your life.
