Seven Habits

Most Americans today consider themselves to be Christians. But, the reality is, there are many different definitions of what a Christian might look like.

As we study the Bible, it becomes clear that there are seven basic habits of people who consider themselves to be "Christians." This is not a complete list. But if a person does demonstrate these habits, it's pretty close.

Obviously God works from the inside-out. Life transformation starts from the inside and then works itself out. These habits are the outward evidences of what is happening on the inside.

At Journey of Faith, we look at these habits as indications of a person's spiritual walk with God

Seven Habits of a God-Driven Life

  1. Righteous Obedience (John 14:15)
"If you love me, obey my commandments. "

  2. Unconditional Love (John 13:34)
"So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. "

  3. Daily Private Worship (Mark 1:35)
"The next morning Jesus awoke long before daybreak and went out alone into the wilderness to pray."

  4. Small Group Participation (Acts 2:46)
"They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity---"

  5. Weekly Church Gathering (Heb 10:25; Lk 4:16)
"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near."

"When he (Jesus) came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures"

  6. Enthusiastic Volunteering (1 Cor 12:7)
"A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church."

  7. Generous Giving (2 Cor 9:7)
"You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully."

These habits are on two signs in our Worship Center. They are a constant reminder to us of what a healthy follower of Jesus Christ looks like.
